We went behind the scenes at a VJBL training session where 14 year olds show up before 7am like seasoned pros and somehow their volunteer coaches are keeping up. Here's how.

This week we went down to a VJBL team's training session. The setting: a pristine private school equipped with a gym, multiple courts, a pool, and recovery facilities.

Training starts at 7:30, but the players - who are still only 14 years old, arrive before 7, foam rollers and protein shakers in hand, wearing their Birkenstocks. The rise of sports science has well and truly reached junior sport. These kids warm up with dynamic stretches, activations, and foam rolling like seasoned pros. Their parents wait in the car, squeezing in a bit of extra work and avoiding the stadium heat.

The coach and assistant arrive at 7:15 on the dot, papers in hand, one for each player. Box scores from last game, individual areas of improvement, things they did well. Personalised, Detailed and Professional.

Of the 10 players at training, almost all run their own YouTube channel to showcase highlights and send college mixtapes overseas. These kids are elite, and they, and their parents expect elite coaching and resources to match.

That's where it gets interesting for the coaches.

As much as they love the players, the environment, and the game itself, these coaches are volunteers with full-time jobs. So how are they producing individual stat sheets for every player? How are they cutting 40 minute game videos into personalised highlight reels, pulling out coaching insights, and having it all ready before the next training session?

They don't have hours for that. They have jobs. And kids.

Their secret? Superstat.

They upload the game, and Superstat does the rest - stats, highlights, areas of improvement, averages, coaching tips, things done well. Everything a player needs to develop, delivered automatically.

Superstat is already changing the game for VJBL and rep basketball coaches, parents, and players across Victoria. With nearly 20 new teams signing up every week, it feels like everyone in the VJBL is using it.

At under $15 per game, and with hours of footage cutting saved, it's fast becoming a no brainer for any coach who'd otherwise spend their Sunday night rewatching film.
